Inside a session

What an hour with us looks like

Whiteboard with a Québec French expression of the week at a Pâtes et Parle session
  1. We start with something you lived this week, in French.

  2. You speak most of the time. We guide, prompt and keep things flowing.

  3. Gentle, in-the-moment corrections and more natural ways to say things.

  4. New expressions and cultural context you can use tomorrow.

  5. Your feedback shapes the next session and your personalized guide.

What our members say

I started coming to Pâtes et Parle a year ago because I wanted to practice my French and meet nice people. The atmosphere is accessible and welcoming, we always have a lot of fun, but above all, I’ve really noticed an improvement in my confidence in using French in my daily life.

I come here every Sunday to practice my French and learn about Quebec culture. In doing so, I’ve made friends with some really nice people. Thanks to the owners, Abrar and Naba, I’m now part of a Quebec community. I always learn a lot every time I go there.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a certain level of French to start?

No. Our 1:1 programs are designed for all levels, from beginners who can only say a few words to advanced speakers who want to sound more natural. We adapt every session to where you are.

How do the 1:1 French sessions work?

Each session lasts one hour, in person in Montréal or online. For in-person sessions you choose the place: we recommend a quiet café near the Orange or Green metro lines, or a private room in a library, and your facilitator can suggest spots. After you pay, we contact you to schedule your sessions.

How much do private French conversation sessions cost?

A single session (À la carte) costs $40 in person or $30 online. The 8-hour Confidence Path package costs $250 in person or $225 online, which works out to about $31 or $28 per hour. Prices are in Canadian dollars.

How do I pay?

You can pay securely online with Zeffy, by Interac e-Transfer to patesetparle@gmail.com, or in cash for in-person sessions. Your spot is confirmed once payment is received.

Do you offer online French conversation sessions?

Yes. Every plan is available online at a lower price ($30 per session or $225 for 8 hours), so you can practise from home or from anywhere in Québec and beyond.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please let us know at least 24 hours before your session to avoid fees. The 8-hour package must be used within 60 days of purchase.

How is conversation coaching different from a French class?

A French class follows a set grammar curriculum, usually in a group, and you may only speak for a few minutes. Conversation coaching is one-on-one: you speak for most of the hour about topics you care about, and your facilitator corrects gently, gives you better ways to say things and builds your confidence.

What is the free personalized guide?

It’s an interactive PDF designed around your interests and goals. The first version is completely free when you book your discovery call. If you continue with a plan, the guide evolves with you to support your progress.

Can I choose the topics we talk about?

Absolutely. Each session is an opportunity to talk about what stood out to you, and your feedback shapes the next session. Even discussing what you didn’t like is excellent speaking practice.

How often should I practise to become conversational?

Regular speaking practice is what builds fluency. That’s why the Confidence Path is 8 hours over up to 60 days, about one session a week: often enough for French to become a habit. Single sessions are great for trying us out or preparing for a specific moment like an interview.

Will I learn Québec French?

Yes. Our founders live in Montréal and learned French here, so you’ll practise the everyday expressions, pronunciation and cultural references you hear in Québec, while still being understood anywhere French is spoken.

I’m not ready for 1:1 yet. What else can I do?

Join our weekly group meetups in Montréal. It’s a relaxed way to practise French with games and conversation, meet people and get to know our community.
